• Fisher’s exact test is an exact test for testing a hypothesis involving a 2×2 table.
• The test can also be used to test a gene-phenotype or gene-gene association, provided all three objects in question are categorical (i.e., of two or more categories).
• The test can be applied to any object that can be classified into two or more groups.
• Application areas include genotyping arrays, tables containing the genetic/phenotypic information of objects (i.e., microarrays, genomic study, etc.), and tables that classify objects in a series of binary events.
