The pre-bump:

The pre-bump is an additional layer of protection placed on the top of the keyboard to protect the keyboard from the inevitable surface of the keyboard. Often times, in older keyboards, some keys were re-positioned to accommodate the new design of the keyboard. This positioning resulted in a weak area where dirt and debris collects and when the user presses down the key, the key will usually register as if it is a full press.
