Recently, we discussed how to use winzip to move files to new folders. winzip is very popular for windows users, many people use it everyday and are familiar with it. But what if you want to use winzip to create a zip archive file, that is, you want to save all of the files in one folder to a zip archive. If you have winzip installed on your computer, you can use the following steps to zip up all files in the «C:\temp» folder to a zip archive file.

Use a text editor to open the archive file.

*Note: Open any of the files in the archive by double clicking on it.

Locate the start and end of the zip file. The start and end lines should look something like this.

. /t

And the end line should look like this:

. /e

The following line gives us the extension of the file, we will use this to determine the extension of the zip file.

. /x

Delete all of the lines starting with -. Then replace the end line above with this.

. /a «YOUR archive folder path» *.txt

It should look like this:

. /a «C:\temp» *.txt

Note: I found that the first time I tried this, the *.txt files were all named *.txt. This was causing a problem because you cannot add an *.extension to the end of the zip archive name. So just open the file in notepad. Find the last line you wrote in step 10. It will have an asterisk (*) next to it. Delete the asterisk, and type the *.extension. For example, *.txt. Then replace the line you wrote in step 11 with this:

. /a «C:\temp» *.txt

*Locking a file: Use LockFile (and UnlockFile) with FileId(n) and/or FileId(n,m) and/or FileId(n,m,d) where n is the file id, m is the minterval and d is the duration, and you’ll use it in the next example.
*Creates a shadow copy of a disk: Enter the disk you want to shadow (you can list them by going to Computer >> Map Network Drive and selecting the disks you want to shadow. Specify the shadow copy size you want to use (default is 512 MB) and what folder you want to put it in. You can also specify the description and size of the image file you want to create. Use this, for instance, to automatically create a new snapshot copy of your music files on every launch of your music player.
*Launches a program: Use FileId(n,m) to specify the file to launch (n) and the minimum interval between launches of the file (m). Specify the program to launch with the -program command line option. For example:
FileId(n,m)
-program «c:\program files\internet explorer.exe»
This will launch Internet Explorer every (n) minutes until you tell it to stop.
To see available options for the FileId(n,m) command, use shadowspawn -command help FileId (n,m) and shadowspawn -help FileId (n,m).
To cancel a file to be launched use «CancelFileId(n,m)».
To kill a program, use KillProgramFileId(n).
Example:
Create a shadow copy of the main folder on your hard disk. Enter a description for the shadow copy, and select a folder to put it in.
FileId(5,1000)
-description «My Shadow Copy»
-folder «C:\ShadowSpc»
Creates a shadow copy of the main folder on your hard disk. Enter a description for the shadow copy, and select a folder to put it in.
FileId(5,1000)

-folder «C:\ShadowSpc»
Dumps a program’s memory onto the disk, loading it into your memory. This can be used for testing and debugging.
