One of my first employer’s offer was MSDN subscription (his main area of interest was C#) — and that was MSDN C#, which I thought was a sort of academic MSDN (we were mainly C and Visual Basic coders). I got the idea many, many years after then, that MSDN was a ‘loot’ many programmers did at the beginning of their career. I spent years trying to get near a win32 project at MS, and not knowing anything about C++ (I didn’t know networking), I didn’t succeed. After 10 years I got an offer to get into QA team for a.NET shop, so I started to gain my.NET skills, and with a few things in my toolbox (Visual Studio, ReSharper, FxCop, TestComplete, etc…), I didn’t have any trouble for applying what I had to QA automation and functional testing. But it wasn’t just about learning the.NET platform. I also had to go through the MSDN download area, and learn the.NET platform and learn the tools to be able to write the test scripts and so forth.

But without him I would not have been able to learn the new things. I could not have such a great experience of learning so much new things with him.
