PMM-Lab was developed as an accessible and open source extension to KNIME, also known as the Konstanz Information Miner.
PMM-Lab is a tool that contains three large components:
· a library of KNIME nodes

● Clean experimental data is transformed into a CSV file, which can be imported into the PMM-Lab.
● Data is partitioned into multiple parts based on the metadata of the experiment.
● Within each part of the experiment, experiments are merged into a single dataset.

They can serve as a means for social commentary, but they can also be used to express our ideas. They are a manifestation of reality, a reminder of the past and a reflection of the present. They embody common perceptions, memories, and reality. They are as old as man, but they are seldom seen or heard. We are witness to various kinds of rituals, ceremonies, celebrations, and the proceedings of governments and nations. For some time now, the humanities have been getting back in touch with portrayals, especially with visual art. This is also the case with infectious diseases, as the latter have been a topic of visual art in the past, and continue to be.
This MSc thesis focuses on the portrayals of various infectious diseases in art. It covers the portrayal of the following infectious diseases: Ebola, SARS, Zika, HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Influenza (including the deadly Spanish Flu of 1918 and the Swine Flu of 2009). We further concentrate on how their portrayals have changed over the past decades.
Drawing on sources that have been published in newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals, we will examine how these portrayals have changed over the past decades. The portrayals can, of course, be based on research, art criticism, the media, and reviews. Some of these sources were made available for the first time by cultural institutions such as the Museums of African Art,

· PMM-Lab provides a comprehensive collection of workflows, mainly for setting up statistical analyses of both standardized and non-standardized data. However, other bioinformatic tasks are also included within the same package.
· PMM-Lab includes a database to store curated experimental data and the metabolic models. This database has an HSQL-based database engine and has built-in web features and connectors to integrate external services or other databases.
· PMM-Lab is compatible with SGA version 2.1.1 (heavens.columbia.edu/Software/SGA/).
· PMM-Lab also stores the models in SBML format, which can be imported, visualized, and saved as a Knime node.

Data storage in PMM-Lab is fully integrated. PMM-Lab does not store any raw data in any form. Data can be uploaded or downloaded from within the workbench using the PMM-Lab graph editor.
