In this tutorial, we will begin with the basics of how to use Photoshop with Windows, then move on to the more complex features for professional image editing.
Step 1:
Manage Your Layers
The first thing we need to do is get our Photoshop document. This will be our canvas for the picture that we will take in this tutorial. To open the Photoshop document, double-click to get started.
To save our work, go to the File menu at the top and then save the file. Keep in mind that the file type we will use is JPEG, and the size will be 8 bits/channel. Leave the compression to LZW, also known as Lossless JPEG (and the default setting).
Change the file type to JPEG and file size to 8 bits/channel. Click OK.
Step 2:
The Layers Window
Now that we have opened up the Photoshop document, we must name our layers. From the Layers panel in the top-right corner, click on the drop-down menu and choose Layers, as shown below.
We will begin to add layers that are used for our photograph. After we are done adding layers, we can move them to different spots on the canvas to show a small portion of the picture.
Step 3:
Creating a Background Layer
Click on the New Layer button at the bottom-left corner. It should be an empty white square. If you don’t see a white square, press Shift + Command + N.
This step is optional. If you like the way things are, you don’t have to add a new layer.
A new layer is added. From the Layers panel, click on the thumbnail to see a preview of what the layer will look like. For now, we will change the transparency of this layer to make it look like the «background.»
Right-click on the thumbnail and choose Layer Style > Blending Options > Opacity. Drag the opacity all the way to the right and adjust until you get the effect you want. The default opacity is 50% or 50% of the original.
Step 4:
Adding a Gradient
We are going to add a subtle gradient to our background to help to give our picture a feeling of depth. To do this, click on the New Layer button again and name the layer «gradient.»

Please note that not all of the tutorials for Photoshop Elements are suitable for Photoshop users. This is because Photoshop Elements is considered a light version of Photoshop. Also, some tutorials will probably not work for you and it depends how advanced you are in Photoshop.
The tutorials in this article are organized in parts. Some tutorials are simple and you should take as much time as you want. Some tutorial are more complicated and you should focus on following exactly the steps.

Photoshop Elements is not a text editor. You can’t open a Photoshop Elements file in a word processor like Libre Office and modify it.
But you can open a Photoshop Elements file in a paint program, for example GIMP. You can also manually edit pixels.
The following image was created by using free online graphics tools such as Pixtastic. There are lots of other tools but they do not allow you to work with the image as a whole.
Here is the edited image. The effect was created with Layer Styles:
You can see the before and the after result in the below screen capture. The after is made with approximately 800 pixels.
Manipulate existing images
In your file, you will only find a few options for editing existing images. You can’t change the color mode of your image, create new layers or use filters.
The file will look like this:
When you work with this file, you will most likely find yourself in a simple image editing scenario.
Select the whole image and then press Delete and select Clear Selection. This will delete the image and free the selected area for editing.
You will then be presented with a dialog box where you can select the size of the canvas:
Press the OK button and the canvas will then be set to 800×800 pixels. When you have selected 800×800 you can press OK a second time. Now all pixels will be visible.
Next open the adjustment layers panel on the top right (you can find it under Window > Adjustments) and

While some are complaining about the expense of attending an all-veg event I don’t think it’s a bad move on MLQ’s part to bring more awareness to the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. When people see large numbers of vegetarians and vegans at events such as their home games, they are more likely to try out the veg/vegan lifestyle. I think that although MLQ has done a wonderful job of encouraging vegetarians/vegans this past year, they have not held any all-veg events. That would be an excellent way to increase awareness and grow the vegetarian/vegan community even more.

@lindsay: I just returned home from a visit with my dad and would love to have the chance to take him. He’s almost 100 years old and has trouble with his car; I’m not about to take him anywhere in DC again unless it’s to a vegan event.
