The ‘scale factor’ refers to the actual ratio of the scale size, the drawing units (e.g. cm) and the text base point (e.g. origin). The scale factor ranges from 0..1, where 0 means a scale of 1:1 (the default setting) and 1 represents a scale size of 1:no scale (1:0).
The scale factor is equal to the (iXText) ratio of the scale size and the drawing unit.
For example if you have a text size of 5mm within a scale size of 1:1 (‘scale factor’ = 1), the text will be 5/1=5 mm high, regardless of the drawn units you are using. (0.5mm per unit.)
This is usually the case, however, there are cases where you wish to see how a text would look when it is scaled against a given scale, without the units of the scale being the basis for the relative heights (e.g. metres).
For example, when you apply a scale of 1:1 to a set of texts relative to a given drawing unit, the height of all text elements will be scaled with the base point, so a 5mm high text, within a scale of 1:1 will be 5mm from the base point regardless of the drawing units you are using.
