UniDirsize is a free application that you can download, and use to see how much disk space a folder is taking up.
Featuring a minimalist design, you can select a file or folder by simply dropping it into the app’s main window. The application scans and updates its data as soon as you drop the file into the window. There is no delay in scanning.
The application displays folder size in the form of a tree, and the size is displayed in the form of a percentage of the source folder’s size or in the form of megabytes. You can select the way you want the size to be displayed.
The application is free to download.
The application is portable, and uses no system registries to function. All data is local, so no extra disk space is used.
The application is very lightweight, taking up around 5.1MB of space on your disk.

Merging the two names together, the application is called UniDirsize, with the name being rather self-explanatory. As mentioned above, this is an app which lets you see the size of a folder on another computer. While this may seem like a boring task to perform, it is not without its advantages.
In short, it would save you a lot of time, and prevent you from having to spend the same amount of time to identify a folder’s size on all of your systems. However, it would still take some time to scan and update its data. This is where UniDirsize comes in, giving you a portable app that does not require much disk space, and does not need system resources.
Even though the application is portable, it does not replace your default file explorer. You can use it to analyze the size of folders, but you can also use it to manage files, navigate in the folder tree, and even browse removable media devices, with the size of those being displayed in the same manner as the folders.

Idle background is a new application that will change your desktop background to specific images listed on the main window.
The images are picked out of the list every minute (or whatever time you specify) and are changed and set to either Tile, Centre or Stretch.
The program will keep looping through the list until you stop the program. Previews of the wallpapers you wish to use are available and extra tools to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Idle background will sit in the system tray while its running, ensuring that it does not clutter your desktop.
You can save your images used as lists, which means that you can have several lists of wallpapers to use, allowing you to switch whenever you get bored of your current wallpapers.

i am developing a java program that can change the desktop background to the specified images,
i have designed a java program that changes the desktop background to the specified images every 10 seconds,
i have a list that contains images to be changed every 10 seconds,
i want the desktop background to change to a random image from the list after every 10 seconds.

i suggest to use the javax.swing.Timer class to schedule your task.

Why does the Dell XPS 15 seem to run a lot hotter than the XPS 13?

I got my hands on a new XPS 15 at work today. I’ve got the latest Intel i7-5500U (Haswell) and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M.
I first noticed the above when I noticed the fan on my old XPS 13 was barely ever on.
I’m a bit surprised that it is running so hot. It is in the Dell case with the 4 external ports and the internal solid-state drive.
Any thoughts why it is running hotter than my old XPS 13? The old one was an i5 (14W) and the new is i7. It’s Dell’s first Haswell laptop.


The CPU in the 15″ XPS models is much faster (and therefore less power-efficient) than the CPU in the 13″ models. If you want something a little more portable, the Dell XPS 13 can be configured with a full-sized keyboard (but not with the touchpad).
